Aggregate
for Clinical Research
ChronoRecord consists of a patient data entry program, an
Administrator program and a data security program. Patients use the
data entry program at home for daily entry of
mood data.
The Administrator program is used to enroll patient, manage
demographic data and to display and print charts and reports.
Enrollment includes entering the patient
into the system and training a patient on how to install and use the data entry
software. To calibrate the VAS scale
for mood, the patient defines the most depressed and most manic states they
have ever experienced. The most manic
or depressed anchor points may be mixed states.
To save time, the ChronoRecord
Association can enroll and train patients who reside in the US and Canada using
the telephone. Patients return data by
e-mail directly to the Association. When new patient data is
received, the patient mood charts and reports
will be sent by e-mail to both the patient and their clinician.
Alternatively, the clinician may choose to install the
Administration program and manage the patient training, enrollment, data
management and reporting. Step-by-step
instructions for every part of the enrollment and data management processes are
provided.
All patient data
stored on a home computer or sent using e-mail is encrypted to protect patient
privacy. The patient selects a password
during the enrollment process.
Both patients and clinicians use the data security program
to read encrypted charts and reports distributed by e-mail.
ChronoRecord is easy and fast for daily use - as simple as
using an ATM at a bank.
The patient installs the data entry program on their
computer at home. Every day the patient
starts the program and enters their password. The patient enters the following data
daily: mood, sleep by hour of the day
(awake, asleep or in bed awake), psychiatric medications taken and any
significant life events. Females enter
menstrual cycle data. Weekly, all
patients enter weight. The software
allows the patient to select and modify all doses of the psychiatric
medications prescribed. The strength of
each pill and the number of pills can be changed; current medications can be
deleted and new medications can be added.
Each month,
ChronoRecord prompts the patient to return the data by e-mail.
However, data can be returned at any time
either the clinician or the patient requests.
The ChronoRecord
Chart displays data imported from the patient data entry program. The Chart simultaneously displays patient
mood, weight, life events, menstrual data if female, sleep, and medications
taken for a period of 30, 60, 90, 120 or 180 days. The data is displayed in three graphs:
Mood Versus Time, Sleep Versus Time and Medications Versus
Time. All three graphs are directly
aligned on the same horizontal axis equal to the time period selected for the
chart (30, 60, 90, 120, 180 days). Any
date may be selected as the starting date for the displays.
A printed report of
every Mood Chart can be made. With a color printer, the Charts will appear identical to those
on the monitor. Additional reports
include patient life events.
Data from multiple
patients and multiple sites can be aggregated for clinical research. This process automatically removes
identifying demographic data and converts the aggregated data to a variety of
standard database formats for analysis.
